Patient Care Technician (PCT) Course

The course prepares the student to tend to the ill or injured under the supervision of doctors, nurses and medical professionals usually in an acute care (hospital) environment.  Our training program is comprehensive and includes the following necessary skills:

  • Obtaining Vital Signs (blood pressure, heart rate, respirations, temperature)
  • Collection and Measurement of Specimens
  • Glucose Monitoring
  • Performing Catheterization
  • Sterile Wound Care
  • Assisting Patients with Daily Living Skills (eating, personal hygiene and grooming)
  • Documentation of Patient Care

PCT's often work in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and/or clinics.

In addition to the acute-care training that is the core to being a PCT, the student must have already completed, or be currently enrolled in the Phlebotomy and EKG/ECG Programs in order to meet the education requirements of the PCT Program.

This is final course in becoming a Patient Care Technician.  Pre-requisites needed are:

  • Valid Florida CNA License
  • Enrollment of both the Phlebotomy and EKG/ECG Programs

Completion of these Certification Training Programs in Florida requires passing the practicum portion, which is held on campus, and the course final written exam.

Once the program has been successfully completed, the student can register through the school to take the National Certification Exam.
